One of the most common questions we get asked at Aspendale Gardens Dental Care by parents anxious about their children’s developing teeth is “does my child need braces and if so when?” The answer to this question can be confusing and you may also get a variety of diverse opinions from qualified dental specialists.
Our in house orthodontist has treated thousands of cases over the years and he has found that if placed at an ideal age, orthodontic treatment, should not extend beyond 12-30 months. To achieve this result, he usually recommends waiting till all the baby teeth have fallen out and the 12 year old molars are starting to come through.
Of course, there are some exceptions to this general rule where braces may need to be placed earlier or later than the average age and some more complex cases may extend beyond the 30 month mark. All these things however, will be discussed with patients prior to embarking on any form of treatment.
Why not come in today for a FREE consult with one of our general dentists to see if you or your child requires and is ready for orthodontic treatment with our orthodontist. If you have private health insurance, you can also make use of our gap free check up and clean at the same time which affords you a more comprehensive check up, any necessary xrays, scale and clean and fluoride treatment gap free if your health insurance covers dental services.
